“Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord.” (2 Cor. 6:17). This call is not new but it has sounded loud and clear recently in a number of books. As our culture embraces sin, God again calls His children to holiness. Will the Bride heed the call? The book Sanctification provides an in depth review of God’s provision to enable His children to live holy lives. The topic of believers’ sanctification is challenging and one that presents the seeking believer with an array of disparate and contradictory views that is confusing. This book uses a Scriptural perspective to shed significant light on God’s provision for His children to live holy lives. Sanctification emphasizes the believer’s practical experience and shows the reader, from God’s Word, what each of us should expect in our personal pursuit of holiness. The author also demonstrates how verses that seem to be contradictory can be reconciled. For example, consider the following four sets of (1). Gal. 5:17a “For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh;” with Gal. 5:24 “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” (2). Jam. 3:2a “For we all stumble in many things.” with 1 Pet. 2:10b “…if you do these things you will never stumble.” (3). Rom 6:22 “But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification…” with Rom. 7:23a “Wretched man that I am!” (4). 1 John 1:8 “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” with 1 John 2:6 “whoever says he abides in Him [Christ] ought to walk in the same way in which He walked.” These are just some of the “difficulties” related to our sanctification that are discussed, resolved, and integrated into a scriptural view of our sanctification. Such a holistic approach brings clarity and consistency to a crucial topic for every believer and points the way to a closer walk with Christ.
